Continuing Health Care
Athena has vast experiencing in supporting families to achieve continuing healthcare funding where there is clear eligibility. Our knowledge of the full framework and how this is applied in practice, enables us to achieve positive outcomes when using this particular funding stream. We also have experience of following this funding stream where the eligibility is not obvious; we have achieved this by having an extensive knowledge of the legal and practical frameworks and knowing how to apply this in different settings.
Case Study
John: 18 years old, severe autism and behaviours that challenge. Initial application for CHC funding was refused as nurse assessor had deemed that the behaviours were ‘typical for some one with autism’. We challenged this view by requesting correct application of the national framework and we were successful in achieving full CHC funding.
Case Study
Susan: 45 years old, learning disabilities, early onset dementia, behaviours that challenge. Initial application for CHC funding was refused as behaviours had reduced. We challenged this on the basis that well met needs are still needs. This is a part of the framework that is consistently misinterpreted, in our experience. We disputed this outcome and achieved a package of care that was jointly funded by both health and social care.
